What is the Bible all about?

Now, some people think the Bible is a book of rules, telling you what you should and shouldn’t do. The Bible certainly does have some rules in it. They show you how life works best. But the Bible isn’t mainly about you and what you should be doing. It’s about God and what he has done. Other people think the Bible is a book of heroes, showing you people you should copy. The Bible does have some heroes in it, but (as you’ll soon find out) most of the people in the Bible aren’t heroes at all. They make some big mistakes (sometimes on purpose), they get afraid and run away. At times, they’re downright mean. No, the Bible isn’t a book of rules, or a book of heroes. The Bible is most of all a story. It’s an adventure story about a young Hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure. It’s a love story about a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne – everything – to rescue the ones he loves. It’s like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life! It takes the whole Bible to tell this story. And at the centre of the story, there is a baby. Every story in the Bible whispers his name. He is like the missing piece in the puzzle – the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together, and suddenly you can see a beautiful picture.

The impact of these events echo throughout history. God’s plan for salvation through Jesus has forever changed how humanity relates to himself, and gives us a hope beyond just this life. What was Jesus really on about?

Why did Jesus come?

Who did Jesus come for?

We’re continuing to look at the Gospel of Luke in this series, exploring the historical record of Jesus’ life and ministry. This section explores Jesus’ ministry in Galilee, in Luke chapters 4-9 (see the video here for a flyover around the Sea of Galilee, just to get your bearings!). Jesus: God’s Promises Fulfilled (Reading Luke series – part 1)

Why did Jesus come?

What does the Bible really say about him?

We’re looking at some of these big questions about Jesus, reading through the Gospel of Luke. Chapters 1-3 outline something of the back-story to Jesus’ life and ministry. Luke begins and ends his account of Jesus in the temple in Jerusalem; of central importance in the Jewish faith. Luke gives us historical details right from the beginning: Continue reading “Jesus: God’s Promises Fulfilled (Reading Luke series – part 1)”

Introducing the Gospel of Luke: Getting the Facts Straight!

What does the Bible claim about Jesus?
Who was Jesus and why did he come?
How can you know that the story of Jesus is true?

Those are big questions – questions this website is attempting to tackle. You may have heard a lot about Jesus, and come across the various opinions and controversy surrounding him, but there’s nothing quite like encountering Jesus for yourself in the careful record of the Bible. Luke’s account is a great place to start. Continue reading “Introducing the Gospel of Luke: Getting the Facts Straight!”
